The Comfort XL is also the unit families pick for a parent helping a small child, or a guest with a walker. It weighs 240 pounds and stands the same 91 inches tall as a standard unit.
Does the wheelchair-accessible porta potty come with a ramp?
No ramp is needed with a Comfort XL wheelchair-accessible porta potty. The floor sits at ground level, so a wheelchair rolls straight in. 4 of the 74 callers we reviewed asked for accessible units, and 1 asked about a ramp. What matters is a level, firm path to the door.
Avoid placing the unit where the path crosses a curb, a step, loose gravel or a steep slope. A ramp is not part of the unit, so the ground itself has to do the work.
How many wheelchair-accessible porta potties does my event need?
The 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 say that where portable toilets are clustered, at least 5% of the units in each cluster, and no less than 1, must be accessible. A cluster of 1 to 20 units needs at least 1 accessible unit. A cluster of 21 to 40 units needs at least 2.
| Units in one cluster | Minimum accessible units (5%, at least 1) | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| 1–20 | 1 | 1, placed closest to the main path |
| 21–40 | 2 | 2, at each end of the row |
| 41–60 | 3 | 3, spread so no guest walks past the whole row |
| 2 separate clusters of 8 | 1 in each cluster = 2 | 2, one per cluster |
For example, a half-marathon caller ordered 14 units: 12 standard and 2 accessible, more than the 1-unit minimum for a single cluster of 14. Read the rule at the U.S. Access Board ADA Standards. Our porta potty sizing guide builds this rule into the count.
Check first: This is general information, not legal advice. Your venue, permit office or event inspector has the final word on accessible restroom counts and placement. Ask them before the event.

How much space does a wheelchair-accessible porta potty need?
A Comfort XL needs a level pad at least 62 by 62 inches, plus a clear delivery path about 66 inches wide. Inside, the 2010 ADA Standards call for a 60-inch-diameter turning circle or a T-shaped turning space in accessible units. Keep the door side free of curbs, steps, gravel and slopes.
- Good ground: concrete, asphalt, packed dirt or short, level lawn. We lay plywood pads on request for soft lawns.
- Clear path: a firm route from parking, seating and the food area to the door, with no lip at the door.
- Truck distance: within 15 feet of where our truck can park, since the unit is 62 inches wide.
- Gate check: most side gates are too narrow. Plan on a driveway, lot or a gate with about 66 inches clear.
- Door direction: face the door toward the path, not toward a wall, hedge or slope.

Hillside homes need extra thought. Our Whittier hills placement guide covers sloped driveways.
Who needs a wheelchair-accessible porta potty besides wheelchair users?
Wheelchair-accessible porta potties help at least 4 groups of guests: wheelchair users, older guests with walkers or canes, parents with a stroller or small child, and anyone who needs a handrail to sit and stand. Many hosts rent 1 Comfort XL for a family party even when no rule requires it.

Questions customers ask before booking
Real questions from our customer calls, answered by our dispatch team.
Does the accessible one come with a ramp?
No ramp is needed. The PolyJohn Comfort XL has a ground-level floor, so a wheelchair rolls straight in. Just give it a level, firm path to the door.
How many accessible porta potties do I need for 10 units?
At least 1. The 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 require at least 5% of units in each cluster, and never less than 1. If your 10 units are in 2 separate spots, plan 1 in each spot. Confirm with your venue or permit office.
Will the handicap porta potty fit in my backyard?
Often not through a side gate. The Comfort XL is 62 inches wide and needs about 66 inches of clear path. Driveways, lots and wide gates work best. Send us a photo of the path.
How much is a wheelchair-accessible porta potty?
From $225 for an event, including delivery, setup and pickup for up to 3 days. Long-term rentals start at $215 per 28 days with weekly service. Typical starting prices as of October 2026; your itemized quote is final.
Can it go on grass?
Yes, on short, level, firm grass. Soft or sloped lawns make the path hard to roll on. We lay plywood pads under the unit on request.
Does it have a sink?
No. The Comfort XL has a hand sanitizer dispenser. Add a hand wash station nearby, placed on the same level path so wheelchair users can reach it.
