How short can a porta potty rental be?
A short-term porta potty rental can be as short as 1 day, but there is no daily rate. Our event rental covers up to 3 days on site, with delivery, setup and pickup included. A 1-day party and a 3-day weekend cost the same, so most short rentals are priced as events.
Weekend rentals are delivered Friday and picked up Monday. That still counts as one event rental. Short rentals arrive pumped, washed and stocked, so they do not need a cleaning visit during a 1-to-3-day stay.
Short rentals usually sit on a driveway or in a side yard, which typically needs no permit. A unit on a City of Whittier street or sidewalk needs a Public Works encroachment permit, and Whittier asks for notice 24 hours ahead. Homes in unincorporated areas such as South Whittier follow LA County Public Works instead. See City of Whittier Public Works permits and confirm with the permit office. Gate check: a standard PolyJohn PJN3 is 43.5 inches wide and needs about 48 inches clear.

Is event pricing or the 28-day cycle cheaper for my rental?
Event pricing is usually cheaper for rentals under 1 week. The 28-day cycle fits jobs of 4 weeks or more, because weekly service is included. A 3-day job on a construction rate is billed 1 full 28-day cycle, so we price short rentals both ways and quote the lower total.
| Rental length | Billing we quote | Cleaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1 day | Event rental (no daily rate) | Arrives clean and stocked |
| 2–3 days | Same event rental | Arrives clean and stocked |
| Weekend, Friday to Monday | Same event rental | Arrives clean; mid-event service optional |
| 4–7 days | Both ways; you get the lower total | Mid-event service if use is heavy |
| 8–27 days | Usually one 28-day cycle | Weekly service included |
| 28 days or more | 28-day cycles until pickup | Weekly service included |

Who rents a porta potty for just a few days?
Short-term porta potty rentals cover 5 common jobs: backyard parties, 1-to-3-day home repairs, film shoots, short emergencies and weekend tournaments. In our call review, about 1 in 4 callers needed a unit the same day or the next day, often because another supplier did not show up.
| Job | Typical setup | Why short-term fits |
|---|---|---|
| Backyard party | 1 standard unit | One event price for up to 3 days |
| Plumbing or sewer repair at home | 1 standard unit | Covers the days the house toilet is off |
| Film or photo shoot | 1–2 deluxe flushing units | Crew gets a flush and a sink |
| Emergency shelter | Several units plus hand washing | We sized about 7 units for about 463 people |
| Weekend tournament | Units plus 1 wheelchair-accessible unit | Friday delivery, Monday pickup |
Can I keep a short-term porta potty longer?
Yes. Date changes are free with 24 hours notice, and you can call by 2 p.m. to set a new pickup date. Rentals that run past 1 week usually move to the 28-day cycle, which includes weekly service. A busy short event can add a mid-event service visit instead.
Tell us early if your repair or job might run long. We can quote both the short and the 28-day option up front, so you know the cost either way. Our rental terms explain date changes and pickup.
