Can I use an RV with a holding tank while my house is built?
Many owners live or work in an RV or office trailer on the lot during a build, and a 250- or 300-gallon holding tank keeps the RV's waste contained between pump-outs. Whether you may live on the lot is a city or county zoning question, so confirm with your local planning office first.
- Check the rules. Ask your city or county planning office whether an RV may be occupied on the lot during construction.
- Pick a spot. Flat, firm ground near the RV, within 15 feet of where our pump truck can park.
- Choose the tank. 250 gallons for lighter use, 300 gallons for more people or more days between pumps.
- Set the schedule. Weekly or every 2 weeks, on a fixed day.
- Add crew toilets. Workers use a standard porta potty, so the RV tank lasts longer.
Check first: This is general information, not legal advice. Rules for living in an RV during construction differ by city and by unincorporated LA County area.

How often does an RV holding tank get pumped?
An above-ground holding tank from David Rental Works is pumped every week or every 2 weeks. The right schedule depends on the tank size, 250 or 300 gallons, and how many people use the RV or trailer. Tell us the headcount and whether there is a shower, and we set a fixed service day.
Showers and dishwashing fill a tank much faster than toilet use alone. If a tank fills before service day, call us and we add a visit. Moving from every 2 weeks to weekly is a phone call.
Long builds pair well with our long-term rental schedules for crew units, serviced on the same day when possible.
Where does the holding tank go on my lot?
A holding tank goes on flat, firm ground within 15 feet of where our pump truck can park, close to the RV or office trailer it serves. Keep a path about 4 feet wide and no overhead wires lower than 12 feet at the truck spot. The tank must stay reachable on every service day.
- Leave gates unlocked on service day, or put the gate code on the work order.
- Do not park cars, lumber or dumpsters between the truck spot and the tank.
- On sloped Whittier hillside lots, tell us the grade so we can pick a safe, level spot.
- Tell us on the call how the RV will connect, and we'll go over the setup before delivery.
Driveway tips for steep lots are in our Whittier hills placement guide.

Questions customers ask before booking
Real questions from our customer calls, answered by our dispatch team.
Can you pump out my RV?
Yes, we do RV black-tank pump-outs on request. Call with your ZIP and where the RV is parked so we can confirm the truck can reach it.
Can you pump out my own toilets that I got from another company?
No. We do not service, pump or move units owned by other rental companies. We can replace them with our own units, serviced weekly.
What size holding tank do I need for my RV?
We rent 250- and 300-gallon tanks. More people, showers or longer time between pumps point to the 300-gallon tank. Tell us your headcount and we'll suggest one.
Can you pump the tank every two weeks instead of weekly?
Yes. Tanks are pumped weekly or every 2 weeks. Light use fits every 2 weeks; switch to weekly by phone if it fills faster.
Do you sell used porta potties or holding tanks?
No. We rent units and tanks with service included. We do not sell them.
We have a site office trailer. Can it use a holding tank?
Yes. Our 250- and 300-gallon above-ground tanks work for office trailers as well as RVs, pumped weekly or every 2 weeks.
