Which events do you supply restrooms for?
David Rental Works supplies event restrooms for backyard parties, quinceañeras, church events, school events, car shows, races, celebrations of life and film sets. About 33 of the 74 rental calls we reviewed were events. A typical party needs 1 standard unit; bigger events need 5 to 16 units.

How many porta potties does my event need?
Use our planning rule: guests × event hours ÷ 250, rounded up, with a minimum of 1 unit. Add 1 unit for every 4 when alcohol is served, and 1 hand wash station per 3 toilets when food is served. A 100-guest, 4-hour party needs 2 units: 100 × 4 ÷ 250 = 1.6.

Assumptions: our planning rule (guests × hours ÷ 250, rounded up), +1 unit per 4 when alcohol is served, 1 hand wash station per 3 toilets with food, and at least 5% wheelchair-accessible units per cluster (2010 ADA Standards §213.2). This is a planning estimate, not a legal requirement.
| Guests and hours | Toilets | With alcohol | Hand wash (food) | Wheelchair-accessible |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 guests, 4 hours | 1 | 2 | 1 | Recommended for public events |
| 100 guests, 4 hours | 2 | 3 | 1 | 1 of the units |
| 150 guests, 5 hours | 3 | 4 | 1 | 1 of the units |
| 300 guests, 6 hours | 8 | 10 | 3 | At least 1 per cluster |

When is a weekend event delivered and picked up?
Weekend events are delivered on Friday and picked up on Monday, the next business day. The extra days cost nothing, because event pricing covers up to 3 days on site. We are closed Sunday, so we do not pick up on Sunday. Saturday morning delivery is possible when a driver is free.
See the full weekend event delivery schedule. Drivers call 30 minutes ahead and give a morning or afternoon window.
Do event porta potties come with a sink?
A standard event porta potty has a hand sanitizer dispenser, not a sink. Add a 2-station hand wash station, or choose a standard unit with a built-in hand sink, when food is served. One PolyJohn Bravo station gives about 350 hand washes per fill, according to the manufacturer.

Compare sink options on the hand wash station page.
Do I need a permit for a Whittier special event?
Many public events in Whittier need a special event permit, and applicants should apply at least 45 days ahead. The applicant must arrange portable restrooms as part of that permit. A private party on your own driveway or yard usually needs no restroom permit, but a unit on the street does.
- 45+ days out: apply for the special event permit and list restrooms in your plan.
- 30 days out: confirm your count, accessible units and hand wash stations with us.
- 1 week out: send the site map, gate codes and an on-site contact.
- Friday before: units are delivered and placed.
- Monday after: units are picked up.
A unit on a City of Whittier street or sidewalk needs a Public Works encroachment permit. See City of Whittier Public Works permits.
Check first: This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm restroom rules with the city permit office or your venue.
How many wheelchair-accessible units does an event need?
2010 ADA Standards §213.2 say that where portable toilets are clustered, at least 5% of the units in each cluster, and no less than 1, must be accessible. A 14-unit cluster needs at least 1 accessible unit; a 21-unit cluster needs 2. Our PolyJohn Comfort XL has a ground-level floor, so no ramp is needed.
Place the accessible unit on firm, level ground with a clear path about 66 inches wide. Read the rule at the U.S. Access Board and see the wheelchair-accessible porta potty specs.
