How do I choose the right rental unit?
Choose a rental unit with 4 questions: who uses it, how long it stays, whether food is served, and how wide the path is. Crews and casual parties use standard units. Food events add hand washing. Formal events pick flushing units or trailers. Public events add at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit.
| Your situation | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Construction crew or remodel | Standard porta potty, weekly service | Meets the Cal/OSHA count at the lowest cost |
| Backyard party, no food | Standard porta potty | Sanitizer inside; fits a 48-inch gate |
| Party or event with food | Standard unit + hand wash station, or a unit with a built-in sink | Guests can wash with soap and water |
| Wedding or office event | Deluxe flushing unit or restroom trailer | Flush, sink and a nicer feel for guests |
| Any public event | Add 1 wheelchair-accessible unit per cluster | 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 set a 5% minimum per cluster |
| Building with no working restrooms | Restroom trailer | Flushing toilets and sinks for staff |
Check the path before you book. A standard PolyJohn PJN3 is 43.5 inches wide, so a gate needs about 48 inches clear plus room for the dolly. A PolyJohn Comfort XL needs about 66 inches. A restroom trailer needs about 20 feet of straight, level access.
Which rental service matches my job?
David Rental Works groups rentals into 9 services by job type: construction, industrial, long-term, short-term, seasonal, special events, festivals, weddings and RV holding tanks. Each service page explains the unit mix, servicing schedule and billing that fit that job. Same-day delivery works for all 9 when you call by noon.
Is my rental billed as an event or every 28 days?
Every rental is billed 1 of 2 ways. Event and short-term rentals cover up to 3 days on site, with delivery, setup and pickup included. Construction and long-term rentals are billed every 28 days, with weekly service included. For a job under 1 week, we price both ways and quote whichever total is lower.
| Event / short-term | Construction / long-term | |
|---|---|---|
| Time on site | Up to 3 days (weekends: Friday to Monday) | Every 28 days until you call for pickup |
| Cleaning | Arrives pumped, washed and stocked | Weekly pump, clean and restock included |
| Delivery and pickup | Included in the event price | One-time delivery/pickup charge on the first quote |
| Best for | Parties, weddings, races, 1–3 day repairs | Jobsites, businesses, seasonal lots |
| Contract | None | None; minimum of 1 cycle |
The 28-day billing cycle explained shows why a cycle is not a calendar month. Our porta potty rental cost guide lists typical starting prices for both.
How many units should I rent?
Most rentals need 1 to 4 units. For events, our planning rule is guests × hours ÷ 250, rounded up, plus 1 extra unit per 4 when alcohol is served. For jobsites, Cal/OSHA §1526 requires at least 1 toilet per 20 workers of each sex. Every cluster at a public event needs 1 wheelchair-accessible unit.
The how many porta potties calculator runs the math for you. The 5% accessible-unit rule comes from the 2010 ADA Standards (U.S. Access Board). Confirm your count with your venue or permit office.

No. We only rent units. We do not sell new or used porta potties.
